Responsive Web Design - Videos

Using the width Property

If the width property is set to 100%, the video player will be responsive and scale up and down:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0">
<style>
video {
    width: 100%;
    height: auto;
}
</style>
</head>
<body>

<video width="400" controls>
  <source src="mov_bbb.mp4" type="video/mp4">
  <source src="mov_bbb.ogg" type="video/ogg">
  Your browser does not support HTML5 video.
</video>

<p>Resize the browser window to see how the size of the video player will scale.</p>

</body>

</html>

Using the max-width Property

If the max-width property is set to 100%, the video player will scale down if it has to, but never scale up to be larger than its original size:

video {
    max-width: 100%;
    height: auto;
}

Add a Video to the Example Web Page

We want to add a video in our example web page. The video will be resized to always take up all the available space:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0">
<style>
* {
    box-sizing: border-box;
}
video {
    width: 100%;
    height: auto;
}
.row:after {
    content: "";
    clear: both;
    display: block;
}
[class*="col-"] {
    float: left;
    padding: 15px;
    width: 100%;
}
@media only screen and (min-width: 600px) {
    .col-s-1 {width: 8.33%;}
    .col-s-2 {width: 16.66%;}
    .col-s-3 {width: 25%;}
